Brief Introduction
Xiling Snow Mountain scenic resort is so colorful, majestic and grand. The peaks with snow accumulated all year round, glorious sea of clouds, changeable alpine natural sights as rapids, thousand-acre ancient laureate forest, magic Yuangu valley, primitive forest, waterfalls, flying butterflies, giant pandas, golden monkeys, natural stone gate and strange labyrinth……all these have formed a significant picture, especially the snow mountain of 5,364 meters above the sea level, an appeal for visitors. It’s covered with snow all year round and the winding ridges like a jade dragon flying in the sky. When it’s sunny, it can be seen clearly in downtown Chengdu and it seems as if it were just before you. High mountain, dense forest, clear spring and rare animals are the four characters of the snow mountain. The scenic resort covers a large area with the terrain dropping in great elevation and of different temperatures, so it has the advantages of “blessed land with sceneries of four seasons”. From the low place to the high place, you may enjoy sceneries of four seasons at the same time.
Scenic spots
?Huashiyu(Flower and syone valley)?——— poem of the spring
From Chadiping to Liangxikou is the Huashiyu scenic spot of the low area. This is a zigzag and deep valley of 3.7km which is a gallery of landscape paintings and a poem of spring. The green cliffs on both banks face each other. The stretches of green bamboo, poplars, wild grapes, walnuts, winter jasmine, azalea and numerous rare plants which can not be called names are in blossoms in succession. They are of different colors and give off sweet fragrant as if it may penetrate into your body. Red leaves all over the mountains in autumn form a marvelous spectacle. Walking along the brook and crossing ten more bridges, you may hear the running water singing all the time. There are more than ten sources of the springs distributing here, which are running down the mountains and formed fifties waterfalls, springs and deep pools. There are colorful stones in the brook everywhere which are shining like crystal, visitors seem like walking in a painting. The rock cracks on the right of Chadiping are deep and narrow which embodies the mood of “rain washes the green hills and birds and apes sing”. Looking up, it seems like a crack of the sky which looks like a thread and nine waterfalls drop from it just like fairy ladies coming down, so it’s named “nine waterfalls and a thread of the sky”.
?Waterfall clusters?
From Liangxikou along Bamboo brook up to Zhangzi(river deer) cliff, you’ll enter Waterfall clusters scenic spot. Here, “ranges upon ranges and peaks are covered by green woods and waters seem to flow in a race”. There are more than ten spring sources which form thirties waterfalls and springs with the height of 30-70 meters, most of which are hiding in the clouds curling deep forests. Looking in the distance, the mountain is colorful and listening near, the water is singing, which makes a beautiful picture and composes a thrilling symphony. “leopard roaring spring” is of a shape of leopard which is roaring and running down the hill. Visitors may hear its roaring echoing in the valley a mile away. Standing in front of it, it’s like a silver dragon flying towards people from the hollow of the hill of 78m high. It looks fierce and wild that makes visitors frightened. When it falls down to the ground and makes many sprays, which may freeze visitors and force them not dare to stay there too long. Walking through the bamboo woods to the end of bamboo brook, the amazing “phoenix tail waterfall” will appear in front of you. If leopard roaring spring is a fierce beast, then phoenix tail waterfall must be a gentle girl.
?Zhangzi (river deer) Cliff?
It got the name since Zhangzi(Chinese name for river deer) used to appear in the green bushes. Visitors may exclaimed at the cascade falling from the top of the cliff which looks like a screen, hence it’s called “Feilian (falling cascade) cave”. In the woods not far away from Zhangzi cliff, there is a “Wucai(meaning colorful in Chinese) waterfall” flowing down the granite and overflows on the scale-like red rocks, spraying like feathers and standing out against the red rocks, just like a flowing white satin with engraving flower patterns standing out against the red woolen cloth. It’s graceful and poised. If there is setting sun, a rainbow may present among the mists and fogs which makes visitors lingering around.
?Odd Rocks and Grotesque Peaks?
Odd Rocks and Grotesque Peaks scenic spot is suite in the place with an altitude from 2,700 to 3,000 meters above the sea level. Visitors may see winding path amidst high peaks which makes the mountain much more lofty and precipitous and the valleys narrower and deeper. The sticking branches of the forest are so dense that they have hidden the sun. Standing in it, watching the odd rocks and grotesque peaks may arouse a kind of mysterious feeling inside visitors. The “odd rock forest” is like a huge rock labyrinth which covers an area of hundreds acres. With spruces covering and the mosses wrapped the rocks and on which grow spruce, fir trees and azaleas of different sizes, it has formed a wonderful spectacle that forest covers rocks and rocks grow forest. It’s just like a series of natural potted landscape, colorful and charming. The ivories winds among the forest like spider net. The thick and soft mosses on the ground are like mattress of the ancient times. Visitors must pay attention to the traps, ice holes, tunnels and piles of stones underground in the deep forest.
?Marvelous alpine spectacles?
“The most wonderful scenery is on the most dangerous peaks” tells what wonderful scenery is. Climbing up “red rock ridge”, passing “the sun and the moon terrace” down to “Yinyang boundary(a dividing line between the dead and living, originally a contrast between darkness and light)”, visitors may appreciate the white snow mountain, the forest Buddha Halo, changeable atmosphere and sun rising etc, which will make them applaud. The altitude of “red rock ridge” is 3,310m above the sea level, which is made up of numerous huge red granites. Standing on the top and looking far away, on the west is the great snow mountain that is like a fairyland. When the sun is rising in the east, the snow mountain turns into a magnificent world in the sunshine and it gets the name “gold mountain in the sunshine”. On the east is the vast Chengdu Plain appearing indistinctly in the light fogs that seems like a Chinese painting. The weather is changeable rapidly in the mountain. The floating clouds and fogs and the now dark and now light rays of light make the static woods into flowing and dynamic scenery paintings. The most marvelous is “Yinyang boundary” meteorological phenomenon which show up near Baisha(white sand) hill. Baisha hill winds its way as long as thousand meters long. The white rocks of the hill are shining like silver. The top of its ridges is only 2 meters wide and the wall of cliff looks like being cut by axe. The hill is the watershed and also the boundary of different climates. The west of which is the climate of Qinghai-Tibet plateau that is cold and dry; the east of which is the climate of the basin that is warm and damp. When theses two different air currents meet at the Baisha hill, the unique meteorological phenomenon comes into being: on one side, you may see the cloudless blue sky; on the other side, it’s misty and cloudy. The worlds of “Yin and Yang” are so distinct which is an extremely unique spectacle of the scenic spots.
?Skiing resort?——Oriental Alps
There is a cable way from the sun and the moon terrace to the skiing resort. Looking from the high above, the landscape like the sea of clouds, sun rising, forest and Buddha Halo is all in the view. It costs 40 minutes to reach the ice and snow kingdom in fairy tales. The skiing resort covers an area of more than 3,000 acres with an height of 2,400 meters above the sea level.
