Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Hoover Dam is located about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas on Highway 93. It straddles the Colorado River at Black Canyon, a deep narrow defile on the border between the states of Nevada and Arizona. It was originally called Boulder Dam, and the nearby city of Boulder, Nevada was created to house the workers building this amazing wonder of engineering. You can easily drive to Boulder City and Hoover Dam from Las Vegas in less than one hour.
Monument Valley. Monument Valley provides perhaps the most enduring and definitive images of the American West. The isolated red mesas and buttes surrounded by empty, sandy desert have been filmed and photographed countless times over the years. Because of this, the area may seem quite familiar, even on a first visit, but it is soon evident that the natural colours really are as bright and deep as they are in all the pictures.

Mesa Verde, Colorado. Mesa Verde National Park contains the largest and most important archeological preserve of Native American culture in the USA. The Anasazi or “ancient ones” populated this area from 500 AD to 1300 AD. They originally occupied the tops of the mesas, which provided some natural protection from their enemies. As their culture developed, they learned to build elaborate fortified communal dwellings on sheltered niches in the cliffs. The ruins of many such ancient cliff-side cities are preserved at Mesa Verde National Park.
New Mexico. New Mexico is located in the heart of the U.S. Southwest. It is situated along the Mexican border sandwiched between Texas and Arizona with Colorado to its north. It is a land of beautiful scenery and is the country of cowboys and Indians.
Albuquerque, New Mexico. Albuquerque (pronounced al–buh–kirk–ee) is the largest city in New Mexico. It is located along the Rio Grande River near the center of the state. Two major interstate highways neatly divide New Mexico into quadrants. Route 25 comes across its northern border from Colorado, wends its way through the north central mountains, then follows the Rio Grande Valley south to El Paso at the borders of Texas and Mexico. Route 40 bisects the state roughly following the path of old Route 66 from the Texas border on the east to the Arizona border on the west. These two major traffic arteries intersect in Albuquerque.
