Rocky Mountain
National Park. Rocky Mountain National Park is a huge area that preserves the undeveloped wilderness of the Rocky Mountains. It contains about 265,000 acres (107,000 hectare) with only a few roads and no hotels, motels, shops, houses or commercial structures. There are hundreds of miles of hiking and horseback trails with many wilderness camping areas and a few improved campgrounds. This park is made for people who wish to appreciate the natural beauty of the mountains without all of the commercial tourist attractions.

Mesa Verde, Colorado. Mesa Verde National Park contains the largest and most important archeological preserve of Native American culture in the USA. The Anasazi or “ancient ones” populated this area from 500 AD to 1300 AD. They originally occupied the tops of the mesas, which provided some natural protection from their enemies. As their culture developed, they learned to build elaborate fortified communal dwellings on sheltered niches in the cliffs. The ruins of many such ancient cliff-side cities are preserved at Mesa Verde National Park.
Colorado. Colorado is located in Southwestern United States of America. The rugged Rocky Mountain range dominates the western half of the state. It is a favorite destination for hikers, backpackers, campers and mountain climbers who love to trek through and enjoy the spectacular scenery. In the winter, it attracts numerous skiers and snowboarders to some of the best ski resorts in the USA.
Denver, Colorado. Denver, Colorado is located on the high plains just east of the Rocky Mountains about 336 miles (540 km) north of Albuquerque, New Mexico and 98 miles (157 km) south of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Denver is often named the “Mile High City” because it is exactly one mile (1609 m.) above sea level. The Rocky Mountains get a lot of snow every winter but Denver’s climate is mild. The city sees approximately 300 days of annual sunshine; and when winter storms do occur, the snow melts fairly quickly.
Colorado Springs, Colorado. Colorado Springs, Colorado is located on the eastern front of the Colorado Rockies, 66 miles (106 km) south of Denver and 278 miles (448 km) north of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Colorado Springs sits more than a mile above sea level at an elevation of 6,035 feet (1839 m.) with some areas lower and higher because of the mountainous terrain. Colorado Springs experiences moderate temperatures year round and avoids harsh weather due to its protection from two natural barriers: the Monument Divide to the north and The Rocky Mountains to the west.
