The ancient city of Xichang takes an area of more than 2,600 square kilometers and the total population is more than 500, 000. It has been a center of politics, economy, culture and transportation in Liangshan Yi Autonomous Region. Xichang has always been an important city in Southwest China. Many dynasties had set county and prefecture in this area. In the 6th year of Yuanding in Han Dynasty (111 A.D.), Sima Xingru had been an ambassador and sent to this area to found Qiongdu (today’s Xichang) and Yuexi Prefecture with 15 counties in its administration. They were all administrated by the Yizhou. The administrative regions have changed for many times in later years, but the Xichang has always been the center of this area. Xichang got a beautiful name as Moon City, because the altitude, temperature, sunshine are good here and the content of suspension materials in air is very low, so the moon in Xichang seems to be very big and bright What is more, because there is a satellite launching center, Xichang is also honored as Space Flight City. The main historical relics here are relics of Han Dynasty, Islamism Mosque and Da tong Gate and so on.
