Huayan monastery was originally built in the Liao Dynasty and regarded as an ancestral temple for the emperors. After being rebuilt and renovated for several times in the Jin, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, the temple has been divided into two: the up and the down, the former taking Daxiong Palace of the Jin Dynasty as the center, and the latter Bojia Palace of the Liao Dynasty. Daxiong Palace is known as one of the biggest ancient Buddhist palaces in China, while Bojia Palace boasts statues of the Liao Dynasty, Tiangong Pavilion, stone prayer flags, and pavilion-like storing cabinets for scriptures.
