Lying in Weihai Bay at the east-most end of Shandong Peninsula, Liugong Island is 2.1 sea miles from the city proper of Weihai city and has an area of 3.15 square kilometers. It is facing the roaring Yellow River and neighboring with the azure-colored Weihai Bay and has long been nicknamed as “the unsinkable battle ship”. Liugong Island boasts of splendid natural views, undulating ridges and peaks and luxurious plants and forests. It enjoys a forest coverage of up to 87%, which contributes to the fresh and clean air on the island. Liugong Island has an agreeable climate and it is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. With small day-and-night temperature differences and long frost-free period, Liugong Island is an ideal place for summer resort, holidays as well as recuperation.
As a world-famous national park in Weihai, Liugong Island National Forest Park is a national park comprising both beautiful natural sceneries and rich cultural relics. In the park, there are several historical scenic spots such as the Monument to Martyrs of South Navy (Zhonghunbei), Liugong Pavilion, Qidingshan Gun Deck and Zhonghunbei Gun Deck and several natural attractions. Climbing up to the highest peak of the island, you can have a panoramic view of the entire island, which makes you relaxed and pleased.
