Wangzhang Salt Road Bridge is a bridge suspended above the whole Qarhan Salt Lake with a length of 32 kilometers which equals thousands of Zhang in Chinese system of measures, thus called the Wangzhang Salt Bridge. As a road bridge seldom seen in other places in the world, it is a wonder of Qaidam basin which actually is a broad road built with salt on the Salt Lake. Without any pier and parapet, it is flat and smooth which looks like the asphaltic road in the city. What is interesting is that cars will skid or even turn over if it is too fast because the surface is too smooth, thus there is a regulation on the block at the bridgehead which states that driver must not exceed a maximum of 80 kilometers an hour. The maintenance of the salt road is unusual in that whenever there is pit on it, the road-mender will firstly fill it with salt and water the salt with brine. When the salt melts and condenses on the surface, the road is as smooth as ever.
