First built in May, 1940 and completed in the summer of 1944, Genghis Khan Temple was designed by a Mongolian artist named Naileer. With architectural styles of the Mongolia, Han and Tibetan nationalities, the temple uses middle axle symmetry technique that was often adopted in ancient architecture of Han nationality. Designed with green domes and square white body, the main body features typical architectural styles of Mongolian and Tibetan nationalities. Facing the south, the temple is square at the bottom and round at the top. The temple palace with an area of 822 square meters is like a mountain with nine spires in all. The main hall lies in the middle of the palace, with a height of 28 meters. In the east and west of it stand side halls, with a height of 16.62 meters. Inlaid with green colored glaze and hung in the middle of the dome of the main hall, a blue square stele is written with Genghis Khan Temple (written in Mongolian and Chinese). On a marble base in the very middle of the main hall sits Genghis Khan bronze stature, 2.8 meters high and 2.6 ton weight, both sides of which display the weapon in Yuan Dynasty . Costume, letters, utensils and vessel are exhibited in the side halls. Patterns of ancient Mongolia are painted on ceilings of all the three halls. The walls of the halls and aisles are painted with Genghis Khan’s apothegms, calligraphy, paintings and fresco on a large scale made seriously by contemporary painters. Covering an area of 68,000 square meters, Genghis Khan Temple is encircled by a white bounding wall that is 2.8 meters high with a circumference extending over 1000 meters. There is a stall in front of a yurt, which is situated east of the temple. In the stall, a white courser, called divine horse and symbolizing heroic bearing of Genghis Khan Expedition, is being raised. Located to the west of the temple, a house is square on the eastern side and round on the western side, with an area of over 200 square meters so that it squarely sets off the temple on the top of the mountain. Going along the steps to the south, you will find a huge entrance gate measuring 10.8 meters in height. The gate consists of three vermeil gates side by side. Side doors on the east and west are 30 meters away from the entrance gate.
