A brief intro to the tourist attraction
It has an altitude between 1200 to 1700 meters. The relative height of the sand hill can reach over 500 meters, which can be called “the Everest in the desert”. Badanjilin desert gathers the beauty of desert and is well-known throughout the world for its steepness and highness. Unique mountains, tolling sand, lakes and sacred springs are called the four wonders in Badanjilin desert. The high sand dune chains of mixed mode and pyramid-like sand dunes are just like mountains in appearance. Sand summit, sand gully, sand cliff, sand cave and sand blade can be seen everywhere. The spectacle is so magnificent and colorful. Situated in the center of the desert, it has towering summits, mountains rolling over one another and steep sand ridges. The unique patterns of the desert make it become an ideal spot for desert expedition and traveling. The resort is reputed as “the World Kingdom Tolling Sand” due to the tolling sand pervading in Badanjilin desert. The sound it makes is just like the rumbling of groups of planes, which are dull and profound. You can hear it clearly even several kilometers away, making people so exhilarated. There are many inland lakes in Badanjilin desert with the reeds outgrowing around the lakes. The green wavering water and playing birds on the water really entitled it the wonderful scenery of “Jiangnan in the desert.”

In 1993, China and German United Expedition Team carried out a comprehensive exploration in Badanjilin desert where they have found a large amount of valuable date and materials, the ostrich and ancient animal fossils including those of dinosaurs. Around the lakes lying in the center of the desert, they also discovered a great number of new and old stone wares, among which there are plenty of stone ware pieces and roughly-painted pottery pieces. Through archaeological analysis, they are the relics of human activities between 3000 and 5000 B.C. with high research value. In 1996, German adventuring traveler Berman published the book entitled “Badanjilin Desert”, which overwhelmed the Europe. In March, 1998, on the International Expedition and Touring Exposition held in USA, the only program promoted by China is Badanjilin desert tourist line, which has drawn great attention from foreign tourist departments.
