With a height of more one zhang, Wugu Terrace occupies an area of ten mu. The Shennong Well, which is excavated for shennong to teach people to irrigate the corns, is next to the Wugu Terrace. In the Shennong Times, Yan Emperor taught people to plant corns for food; and divided corns into five categories, namely, rice, millet, broomcorn millet, wheat and bean. He prospered agriculture, knew the techniques of planting and planted corns, so, he gained the name of “Shennong” (means the god of agriculture) and became the founder of Chinese traditional agriculture. He also tasted hundreds kinds of plants, invented herbal medicine to cure the sick. He is respected by Chinese people as the founder of Chinese medicine. It is said that Yan Emperor Shennong maintained his domination for 140 years; he died in his 168th years when he patrolled the hometown of tea in Changsha. Yan Emperor Shennong “Capitalized Chen” and completed the great transition from nomadism to agriculture. The plain of Yellow River and the Huaihe River, whose center is Huaiyang, is the origin place of Chinese agriculture. We regard Yan Emperor as the top of the Five Emperors and he really deserved this title.
