The Oroquen People are an ethnic minority group in Northern China. They inhabit the region which encompasses Baiyinna Town in Huma County eastwards, Tahe Town westwards, Hanjiayuanzi Town southwards across the Huma River, and Yixiken Town. In September 1953, a village was officially established for the Oroquen people; currently a total of 4458 people comprising 10 ethnic groups live there. Among the population, the people of Oroquen Nationality number 546 and there are 3724 people of Han Nationality. The Village is situated at the foot of a hill and beside a stream. Its length from east to west is 56 kilometers and its width from south to north is 55 kilometers. After the Oroquen village was established, their traditional lifestyle of hunting, fishing and gathering shifted to become more agriculturally-based. Oroquen people believe in the Shaman Religion – a kind of polytheism – and they worship the Mountain God. Primitive and holy totems can be observed in the Village. In conclusion: travelers who take the opportunity to interact with the enchanting Oroquen people may find their own lives enriched by the kindness and the goodness of these friendly people, and the rustic romance of their way of life.
