The Elephant Trunk Hill is a symbol of Guilin. The huge image of an elephant drinking in the river appears always serves as the compnay of the name” Guilin” to appear in books, magazines, Tv and advertised travel materials.
There are the Water Moon Cave, the Elephant Eye Cave, Puxian Pagoda, Hongfeng Temple and the Display of the Taiping Revolution in the hill;
Between the elephant trunk and its body space a round cave which resembles a full moon drifting on the water, thus the name Water Moon Cave. When in a full moon night, the water waves and the moon glitters form a fantastic scene which has been highly honored by poets, painters over history.
The elephant Eye Cave is located at the southern and northern side of the hill waist. The cave has a height of around 2 meters, spans 5 to 10 meters in width, about 52 meters in length. The two entrances are located at the site for eyes, that’s how the hill got its name. From the south entrance and up the stone stairs, you can reach the south eye; walk out of the cave, and the winding mountain road will lead you to the top of the hill. The north side is cliff without any way up to the top.
