General Situation:
Scenic Spot of Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge consists of Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge and Eight Chengyang Villages, which include Maan, Pingzhai, Yanzhai, Chengyangzhai, Pingpu, Pingbu and Jichang.
Scenic Spots:
Chengyang Bridge
Also called Yongji Bridge, Chengyang Wind and Rain Bridge and Panlong Bridge, it is the most famous one among numerous wind and rain bridges of Guangxi and a representative work of Dong architecture. Built in 1961, the bridge of wood and stone is 76 m long and 3.7 m wide, wood flooring the five stone piers. There is a long corridor in the bridge as a shelter from the rain, pews are equipped on its sides for passersby to shelter and relax. On the five piers, are built five pavilions of Dong Style, which are four-storey tower structure with overlapped eaves, covered by green tiles and white eaves. One end of the ridge all upturn in shape of a waning moon, which seems like a golden phoenix spreading her wings and going to soar. With the hexagon spire, the middle pavilion is like a pagoda, imposing and magnificent. While the foursquare spire of the side pavilion makes it like a palace, graceful and baronial. The eaves of the corridor are decorated with many artistic Dong designs. The whole architecture on the bridge is beautiful, elegant and of national style. The base of the bridge consists of stone piers, while its superstructure is wood. Without one nail, the fine craftsmen handily embed blocks of wood into each other with their light hands, creating a surpassingly brilliant artwork. Yongji Bridge has both national design and structure of ingenuity. The whole bridge is formed by wood connected with tenons by chiseling, which crisscrosses in mass. The structure is complex but precise, together with its graceful shape, making the building grand and imposing, presenting the fine architecture art of Dong Nationality.
Maan
It is the closest village to the wind and rain bridge. Sometimes, performance of Dong Nationality will be on show in the front of Maan Drum Tower (80RMB). You can take the chance to enjoy it alongside when there is a group tour visiting. But you would better not take pictures, since it charges.
Pingzhai,Yanzhai,Chengyangzhai
They are almost connected to each other, which need over one hour to visit slowly. There is a fair in Chengyang Village every three days, which is not in large scale (the fair in Linxi County is large, held once five days), but goods for trade are numerous and cheep. Also, Chengyang Village is accessible by highway.
Pingpu
You can hitch a ride at Pingzhai to Pingbu (it takes 1RMB per person and a 10 minutes drive), where 2 drum towers are newly built. Drum tower, wind and rain bridge and drama platform are all traditional Dong buildings. Without small charges, you would better not step into the newly built drum tower, because donation of money is necessary.
