Coonabarabran

Coonabarabran is best known as the gateway to the Warrumbungles, the mountains that make for one of the highpoints of Central New South Wales. The Warrumbungles is easy to navigate, as much of it is National Park land, and there you’ll find the state’s most intriguing rock formations – such as the Breadknife – documented in Coonabarabran’s museums, as well as native wildflowers, birds, kangaroos and koalas. Astronomy is big in town with two observatories and October sees Warrumbungle Festival of the Stars which also displays the arts and the Aboriginal heritage of the area. There is a great diversity of things to see and do!
