Binnaway

Binnaway is a charming country town nestled on the Castlereagh River about 35 km south of Coonabarabran. In its heyday Binnaway was a thriving steam railway centre servicing over 20 steam engines and served as a vital transport link between farming areas, the timber industry and the coastal markets. In the 1950’s the Royal Hotel in Binnaway was the setting for the classic Peter Finch film, “The Shiralee”.
