Hot, muggy and close to the Venezuelan border, CĂșcuta is either the first or last Colombian city that many overland travelers visit. The city has a modern, if rather uninspiring, center and vast poor suburbs. There’s little reason to linger, but you may need to stick around for a night if you’re crossing the border.
Even if you’re coming this way, you may prefer to stay overnight in Pamplona, rather than CĂșcuta, as some travelers do.
