The elevation of the scenic attraction is from 2900m (Gongga estuary) to 6032m (the peak of Chenresig). The scenic spot, covering an area of 560 thousand hectares, include three sacred mountains here: Chenresig (Avalokitesvara, 6032 meters), Jambeyang (Manjusri, 5958 m), and Chanadorje (Vajrapani, 5958 m). Thanks to the special geographical environment and natural climate, it maintains the unspoilt vegetation and native forests, very isolated Tibetan villages, a small monastery, and sacred lakes and it is the most complete natural ecosystem preserved in China.
Yading means “facing the sun” in Tibetan language. Before climbing the sacred mountain, tourists can pilgrimage the Gongling Temple at the foot of the sacred mountain to receive blessings from Buddhism. Congling Temple is famous for Nianqinggonggarisonggongbu sacred mountain. The magnificent temple preserves artistic fresco and precious cultural relics. From Gongling Temple and passing through Riwa, there are two routes to the core area of Yading natural reserve. The first one is from Mengzi Canyon passing through Zhihuozhalang (the entrance of the sacred mountain) to reach Longlong Dam and Chonggu Monastery. The next one is climbing westward and melting into the “glittery” Echu Mountain.
Three Sacred Mountains
The three sacred mountains are: Chenresig (Avalokitesvara), Jambeyang (Manjusri,), and Chanadorje (Vajrapani). The Chenresig (Avalokitesvara, 6032 meters), representing the Avalokitesvara sitting on the lotus pedestal and a sacred bottle holing in hand, is the highest mountain in Daocheng. Jambeyang (Manjusri, 5958 m), looking like a gentle and quiet maiden, is transparent and beautifully wrought. Chanadorje (Vajrapani, 5958 m) is like a healthy and energetic youngster. All together, they were ranked as the eleventh most sacred mountains in Tibetan Buddhism. The three mountains represent compassion, wisdom and energy respectively. Tibetan Buddhists believe that making a pilgrimage around these snow-capped mountains brings great merit. During the long past, these three sacred mountains represented the hope and dream of the Tibetans and also the home of their souls.
Zhihuozhalang
In the Tibetan language, Zhihuozhalang means “shouting to drive off any barrier”. It is a huge rock, regarded by local Tibetans as the God of the Mountain Gate. A sacred driver of local Tibetans, the Gonggayin River converges here and then pours into the Chitu River. The Mulis built by layering stones beside the river represent a magnificent sight. Every year at Saga Dawa (April 15 of the Tibetan calendar when Buddha was born – a day for someone to become immortal or nirvana), the folks will walk around the rock and then bathe in the river.
Chonggu Monastery
It is situated at the foot of Chenresig Mountain. Chonggu Monastery, which is seriously damaged, with only fragments of bricks and broken walls left, and its establish time is still being a secret. Chonggu Monastery is subject to Galangjiling Temple, and there are Zhaba (a kind of LAMA) assigned by Gagen Living Buda to read Buddhist scriptures and song chants, and in which in the chapel there is clay made Shijia Sculpture with oblations.
Nianqinggonggarisonggongbu
It consists of norhern peak xiannari, the highest peak of Daocheng, 5032 meters above sea level), southern Yangmaiyong (and eastern peak Xialangduoji Golden Steel Han Bodhisattva), which distributed in the shape of Chinese character “PIN”, regarded as the god mountain by Tibetern. At the 8th century, Lotus Great Master introduced the lighting to these three snowed mountains and gave names to them Kwan-yin, Wenshu, and Xialangbuji respectively. Like bright colored gems, holy lakes Milk Sea, Pearl Sea and many a lakes are scattered around this reserve.
Gonggalangjiling Temple
It is the biggest shamanism temple of Daocheng and is famous for Nianqinggonggarisonggongbu sacred mountain. The magnificent temple preserves fine fresco and precious the bronze Mile sculpture presented by the fifth Lama.
Hell Valley

It’s one of the eight skeleton forests in the world mentioned in the Buddha records. Its highest elevation is 3,800 meters and the lowest 2,500 meters, where clouds move past the valley among exotic mountain rocks. Looking in a close distance, visitors might feel scared over the sight of their shapes. The Hell Valley is lengthy and deep with primitive forests around, strange rocks inlaid, waterfalls giving shouting echoes.
Mengzi Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon, with a total length of 13 kilometers, is located between Mengzi and Riwa. The steep canyon gives birth to majestic mountains. There are various mountains in the canyon: some are like a high pillar going straight into the heaven, some are like stone monkeys.
Echu Mountain
In the Tibetan language, Mt. Echu means the “Shining Mountain”. Its Lamuge Forest farm is the largest of Daocheng. The shape of Mt. Echu goes softly in widespread forests and changeable climate. In autumn, the whole mountain is colored by burgeoning trees and flowers, shining under the sun, just as indicated by its beautiful name. On Mt. Echu and overlooking at the Konka Risumgongba Peak, visitors are instantly overwhelmed by the mountain’s magnificence and splendor.
Axi Mountainous Park
It is 6.2Kilometers far from Gongling District and accessible to public roads. Axi village preserves ancient, kind and simple folkway. Tourists can appreciate the whole process of making potteries by hand and the famous “the site of Axi battle”. Tourists can experience here the harmony of people living with people and people with the nature, which can compare to the paradise.
Ruorong Cattle Pasture
Rurong Cattle Pasture, with an elevation of 4150m, is one of the famous lodging sites inside Yading Natural Reserve. It will take some time to get from the Chonggu Temple to the Luorong Meadow. The meadow is surrounded on three sides by the three snow peaks of Konka Risumgongba. A delightful contrast is formed by nearby snow peaks, forests, meadows, streams, lakes waterfalls and log houses. It is against the three sacred mountains and it is the best location to appreciate the sacred mountains. It is a must to Five-color Sea and Milk Sea.
Pearl Sea
It is located at the foot of Chenresig Mountain and it is about 20 minutes’ walk from Chonggu Monastery. It hidden among trees is so quiet and so charming.
Five-color Sea
Five-color Sea means a “high mountain lake” in Tibetan language. It is located on Lamuci Mountain (4,100m above sea level), which is located the south of Kangding. The lake is surrounded by mountains in three directions and a clear spring flows down and pours into Zheduo River.
Milk Sea
Milk Sea is pronounced “Erongcuo” in Tibetan language. It was said that at the time of spring coming and flowers blooming the water in the lake seems pure milk.
