Brief introduction
Weiyuan National Forest Park is composed of 4 scenic attractions: Lotus Peak (Lian Feng) Mountain, Shouyang Mountain, Tianjing Gorge and Shimen Reservoir.
Lotus Peak Mountain (A national forest park)
The Lotus Peak Mountain got its name because the nine peaks form a circle in the shape of a lotus flower. The mountain, famous for its beautiful scenery, has attracted lots of tourists, including many famous people, officials and literati. Boyi and Shuqi, two princes of Shang Dynasty (c1600BC-c1100BC) once lived here as hermits. There are cultural relics and some grottoes, temples and steles in the mountain.
Shouyang Mountain
Shouyang Mountain, echoing the Lotus Peak Mountain at a distance, is lofty and steep with lush green pine trees. The mountain got its name as it is the loftiest mountain (Shou) in the region and it receives the first gleam of sunshine (Yang). As the legend goes, after Boyi and Shuqi died, they were buried in Shouyang Mountain. That is another reason why the mountain is famous.
Tianjing Gorge
Tianjing Gorge is typical Danxia landform formed by red terrestrial sandstone and conglomerate and characterized by red rock walls and cliffs. It is a 7.5-km-long prehistoric gorge with picturesque scenery and is perilous, magnificent, quiet and secluded. The gorge has attracted numerous tourists since it was exploited and has been praised highly.
Taibai Mountain
Taibai Mountain is also called “small Mt. Huashan” (one of the five sacred mountains and the most precipitous one in China) because it is as high as 3,300 meters and is precipitous. There is also magnificent scenery in the mountain.
Accommodation
Tourists can stay at the county town of Weiyuan, where there are hotels at all levels and home hotels in the countryside. The hotels in Weiyuan are clean and cheap.
