The Temple of Labrang was established by Jiangmuyang who was the first local living Buddha in the year AD1710. At present, there are total 18 resplendent and magnificent Buddha palaces and more than ten thousand monk dorms in the Temple. The whole building is uncommonly resplendent and towering. From its appearance,
The Temple is very colorful. The designs of its colors are suited best and the Temple is setting off by the blue sky on the tableland clearly and seems attractively holy The black cloth covers are drifting and waving with wind in the sky and there are white auspicious holy animals which are very lifelike and bearing differently on the black cloth covers. All these reflect particular local Tibetan culture and customs.
After development of hundreds of years, the present Labrang Temple has a very large scale and is including consummate disciplines. There are total 6 collges in the Temple and total 48 resplendent and magnificent Buddha palaces and more than 500 Buddha yards. The present Labrang Temple is a very important center for Buddha studying and other knowledge, especially for monks who believe in Tibetan Buddhism. The disciplines are including Buddha theories, astronomy, logics, mathematics, calligraphy, music, dance, medicine, colored drawing, sculpture and other subjects. By its deep and proficient teaching skills and researches the present Labrang Temple has been one of the advanced Tibetan Buddhism universities in the Anmuduo Tibetan area. The Labrang Temple is in charge of 108 small temples in the around 8 Tibetan Buddhism parochial parts. Among the above 6 colleges, the college of Tiesanglangwa is the largest one which is including the former palace, the main palace and the back palace. There is the statue of Songtsam Gambo(c.617-650),who was the king of the Tubo Kingdom in Lhasa in the 7th century and who first introduced Buddhism and Tang culture in Tibet in the former palace. And the main palace is the most magnificent. its width is 100 meters and its length is 75 meters. the main palace can accommodate 400 Tibetan monks to read their Tibetan Buddhism classics at the time. And there are more than 1700 pieces of Tibetan Buddhism buckets. Tibetan Buddhism incenses are burning the oil lamplights are glimmering and the smell of incense are stretching over kilometers. The whole stuff makes a peaceful picture of heaven life.
The best tour time
It will be a most busy and active time for the local temples from 8th after Traditional Chinese Spring festival in January in Traditional Chinese Lunar Calendar to 16th. During the time a traveler will experience all kinds of religious ceremonies which will be held in the Labrang Temple. Moreover, it is usually cool and much comfortable in summer in the Autonomous Prefecture of Gan’nan Tibetan Nationality. There are endless Gesang Flower and other wild flowers on the great tableland. At that time, some local special national celebrations will be held here.
