Briefing of the Spot:
Keluke Lake, a saltwater lake, is connected with Tuosu Lake, a freshwater lake, thus winning the both a name “Talian Lake”. They are like a gigantic glistening mirror dotted in the vast desert and boundless grassland. The island in the lake provides a perfect stronghold for birds. The edge of the lake is teemed with reed marshes, representing wonderful scenic spot. After investment and construction in the 1980s, Keluke Lake, with a water area of 57.4 square kilometers, has been equipped with docks, traveling boats, restaurants and so on for the sake of tourists. Carps, herring, black carps, crucian, breams, crabs, and shrimps are raised in the lake, providing an annual output of aquatic product of 170.5 tons.
The very word “Keluke” is originally Mongolian, meaning “a grassy precarious shoal”, or as some others have suggested, “a place with plenty of water and lush pasture”. “Tuosu” also comes from Mongolian, meaning “butter”. Thought the two lakes are quite close to each other and enjoy the same ecological environment and historical change, their sceneries, appearances and features are totally different. Keluke Lake is freshwater lake which is slightly salty. It has a low and unsmooth lakebed. It has limpid and serene water, contributing to splendid scenery. Tuosu Lake is a typical inland saltwater lake, with scarce aquatic animals and plants. It is also surrounded by boundless desert. The lake has boundless expanse. When it is sunny, the lake presents rippling water which has the same color with the sky, feasting tourists with a wonderful view. When it’s winding, the lake will roar with turbulent waves and sprinkling spray, bringing a great sensation to tourists.
