Introduction of the tourist spot
Shanxi and Shaanxi Guild Hall is a series of buildings constructed by merchants from Shanxi Province and Shaanxi Province, which is a complex of God temple and guild hall. Stared in the eighth year of Qianlong Era in the Qing Dynasty (1743 AD), the construction work was accomplished in four years when the major projects, such as Mountain Gate, Main Palace and other buildings were completed. After the following extension year by year, the guild hall had not reached the current scale until the fourteenth year of the Jiaqing Era in the Qing Dynasty (1809 AD). The building complex includes Mountain Gate, Passage Building, Opera Tower, North and South Buildings in between, Bell Tower, Drum Tower, North and South Viewing Towers, North and South Inscription Pavilion, Three Grand Palace and Spring Autumn Pavilion. There are totally 160 rooms in different sizes. Besides, there are other scenic spots in the guild hall, such as stone square engraved flower and couplets eave posts, circular engraved lions and elephants, unicorn doorposts, the screen wall facing the gate of hall, the winding wall, superficial engraved landscapes, flowers and grass. All of the above are carefully made. The most exquisite craftwork is presented in the wood carving which has a wide range of subjects, such as flowers, birds, insects, beasts, human beings and so on. The most popular designs are dragon, phoenix and peony. The carving bucket arches and other workmanship here also have high artistic values.
The Shanxi and Shaanxi Guild Hall witnesses the developed commerce and prosperous economy of Liaocheng in history. It integrated the great achievements in Chinese traditional culture, as well as traditional Chinese thoughts on Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism. The buildings are compactly laid out, well proportioned, properly connected and magnificently decorated, which are masterworks in ancient Chinese architecture.
