A crater by volcanic eruption in the Quaternary Period, the Natural Pool then becomes a crater lake after accumulating enough water. The lake at the top of a mountain is often called the natural pool, and here what we say is by name of the Greater Xing’an Natural Pool, one of 6 renowned natural pools in China, ranking the 3rd only after Baitou Mountain’ Natural Pool in Gilin province and Bo’geda Peak’ Natural Pool of Tianshan in Xinjiang province. While the second pool is not a crater lake, so the Greater Xing’an Mountains’ Natural Pool may rank the 2nd from the aspect of forming way. With the elevation of 1332m and the relative height of 18m, it is a cone with a round top crater surrounded by basalt. The lake is like a round pot and the surface is an ellipse, 450m long from east to west and 300m wide from south to north, covering an area of 13.5 hectares. Whenever flood or drought, the water in the lake is always still like a mirror, from which we can see clearly the beautiful scenery of green trees and mountains. During every transition from spring to summer, here is a natural and picturesque scroll abundant with beautiful mist and mountain scenery.
