The programming total area of the scenic spot Mount Tai is 425 square kilometers. The elevation of the main peak Jade Emperor Summit is 1545 meters, surrounding which there are 112 mountains, 98 cliffs, 102 river valleys, 72 famous cavities, 72 springs, 64 waterfalls and deep pools, 36 strange rocks, constituting the majestic Mount Tai.
Mount Tai is located in the east of China. It was once called “Mount Dai” or “Mount Daizong”. It is the leader of the five sacred mountains. There are numerous beauty spots in Mount Tai, among which, the four wonders earn widespread fame. There are Sunrises from the East, the Sunset Glow, the Sea of Clouds and the Golden Belt along the Yellow River. With the change of the sunny and rainy days, the scenery of Mount Tai is changing continuously. When it is sunny, visitors can see numerous peaks rising Dai peak, the Wenhe River is just like a belt; when it is just after rainy, numerous peaks spatter sprays and the rainbow glitters beautifully. In the morning, we can see the sunrise and the East River; in the evening, we can enjoy the sunlit of the setting sun. In the spring and summer, the trees on Mount Tai are flourishing and the flowers are in their full blossom. In the winter, the red autumn leaves on Mount Tai look like burning and the cloud is white. The scenery of frog of Mount Tai is charming. The whole Mount Tai is just like wearing a silver coat, the numerous trees look like the blossom of pear blossom.
Besides, Mount Tai has six big valleys, namely, Eastern Valley, Middle Valley, West Valley, Tianjin River, Tianzhu Valley and Taohua Valley. The scenery of Mount Tai are divided into six scenic spots, namely, You, Kuang, Ao, Xiu, Miao, Li. The scenery is not only natural but also constructed by many labors for thousands of years. They fully manifested the concept of “Harmony of the Heaven and the Earth.” of the ancient Chinese civilization. In ancient times, the emperor always chose the middle stone steps to climb up to the mountain, so the middle road is always called “The Scenery for Climbing up to the Heaven” and “You Zone”. However, ancient people held many activities in the south of Mount Tai and the scenery there are relatively more than other areas, for this reason, people call it “Li Zone”. Paralleling with the west valley, the west road is called “Kuang Zone”. This is the best scenery of the natural scenery of Mount Tai. Tianzhu Valley goes from the northeast of Mount Tai and Shiwudeng Peak, with numerous strange stones, the shape of the mountains is grotesque, gains the name of “Ao Zone”. Dai Temple: Visitors usually visit Dai Temple first, Dai Temple is the place where emperors held ceremonies for offering sacrifices to heaven and made pilgrimages to the mountain. This is a kind of ceremony for the emperors to pray to heaven and earth. The ceremony is usually divided into 2 parts. The emperor lead on the ministers climbing up to Mount Tai to memorize the heaven is called “Feng”. After it, they go down the mountain and memorize the earth on a clear spot is called “Chan”. The emperor received orders from the heaven, only the country is prosperous and the people are at peace, can the emperor memorize the heaven and earth. Fengchan is a grand activity of a country, if the national power isn’t strong enough, it can not afford the fee for Fengchan. Dai Temple has preserved many sacrificing equipments, offerings, handicrafts, Daoism classics, as well as 184 ancient inscriptions and 48 stones carved with human figures of the Han Dynasty (202-220). It is the third largest inscription forest only after Xi’an and Qufu in China. Dai Temple adopts the structure of imperial palace; it costs the largest money among the architecture of Chinese temples.
Mid-heaven Gate: Mid-heaven Gate lies in the half of the mountainside of Mount Tai. Once the travelers arrive to this point, they have already finished half of the total travel. Both looking up to the mountain and looking out upon make visitors relaxed and happy. After entering into the Mid-heaven Gate, you can choose whether continue the climbing and take the cable car according to your vigor and time. The Pine Greeting Guests: Walking along the circling road, you can see an ancient pine tree standing besides the stone of the road from a distance. One side of the branches of the ancient pine tree droops down, it looks like a host waving his hand to welcome the guests fervidly. This is the famous “The Pine Greeting Guests” in China. You can see it in the living rooms of many families; it means the welcome of the host to the guest.
Eighteen Bends: The steepest slope of Mount Tai is Eighteen Bends. Its steps are dense; climbing it is really painstaking work. The whole course is less than 1 kilometer, but the perpendicular height is more than 400 meters. There are totally 1633 steps. Heaven Street: On the summit of Mount Tai, it begins from Southern Heavenly Gate in the west, and ends at Azure Cloud Temple in the east. The whole course is 0.6 kilometers. It sticks to the style of the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty (221—206 B.C.). It is the model of the ancient culture, congregating architecture, painting, sculpture and forest. It offers in worship to the goddess of Mount Tai- Azure Cloud Goddess, she is the goddess dominated Mount Tai; people call her “Mount Tai Grandmother”. It is said that the Mount Tai Grandmother is very efficacious. Many people climbing up to Mount Tai to beg for good wishes to Mount Tai Grandmother. Some beg for richness, some for peace and some for good business, and there are people beg for long life and having a son. When you beg for your wishes, you should give a promise to Mount Tai Grandmother. Once your wish comes true, you must come to make your promise come true. If you have not achieved your wish, you can beg again until your wishes come true. The ways for making wishes are various, some give presents, some give plaques and some donate funds for building temples and some plant trees. It is efficacious if your desires are sincere. Coming to the Mount Tai Grandmother to make wishes is a pleasant thing for many visitors.
The Tang precipice: The most concentrated place of engraving in Mount Tai is the Tang precipice, which is an engraving stone of Tang Dynasty (726 A.D.). The Tang precipice is 12.3 meters in height and 5.3 meters in width. The inscription is 24 lines, with 51 words each time. Now there are 1008 words left. The inscription recording the whole process of the fiesta is composed by Emperor Lee Longji of Tang Dynasty (618 -907) when he came to Mount Tai to seal Buddhism, the propose of which is to pray for his people, and of course praise the achievements of his ancestors and he himself. The Tang, because of suffering from rains, winds and man-made destructions for a long time, has already destroyed 26 words now, 6 words can’t be recognized. There are s still has the Sung precipices, Qing precipices and 75 engraving stones surrounding it. It is a big spectacular sight of the precipices in Mount Tai.
Jade Emperor Summit: Jade Emperor Summit is the tallest place of Mount Tai. It gets its name from Jade Emperor Temple. It is built in the honor of Jade Emperor of Taoism. There is a big stone in the middle of the yard in front of the temple, engraving with “Summit of Mount Tai”” and “”1545 meters””. If you look from here as far as you can, you will see all the mountains are at your foot, and the whole world seems small. A kind of pleasant feeling arises spontaneously.
