Genghis Khan was an outstanding military strategist and statesman of Mongolian. After uniting and organizing fragmented Mongol tribes, he was named supreme leader of the Mongols in 1206. Having forged a Mongol nation, Genghis Khan turned to bloody military campaigns to conquer other countries and his territory extended to Central Asia and South Russia. In 1226, Genghis Khan led army to subjugate the kingdom of Xixia in which he died of disease the next year. When the Yuan Dynasty was founded, Genghis Khan was conferred posthumously as Emperor Taizu.

Genghis Khan Mausoleum consists of mainly a row of three yurt-shaped palaces with domes of glazed yellow tiles bordered with blue, white walls and vermilion gates. And, a corridor connects the three structures.
