The East Island is 8 sea miles away from Sanya. It is like a huge hawksbill floating on the mist-covered water of the boundless sea. Hence, it is also called East Hawksbill Islet. There are luxuriant woods with charming sceneries on the island. A large number of corals grow in the sea area around the East Island, which is a national coral reserve. Since it is far away from the coast and has clear and transparent sea water with little pollution, the corals here can multiply and grow in large quantities, thus assembling a large number of tropical fishes, which forms a huge submarine ecosphere. There are two excellent fishing zones in the sea area of the East Island. One is to the northwest of the island, about 800 meters away from it. The water has a depth of 13 to 15 meters. The current is steady here. At the bottom of the sea, there are large quantities of corals and mattresses, where a great variety of fishes live there. The other is the two leaf stone to the southwest of the island. It is 1.5 sea miles away from the island. The water has a depth of 15 to 30 meters. There are also overgrown corals below the water. Big fishes are often found here. The fishes which can often be caught on the East Island include lithosporics, fall parrotfish/green wrasses, sea carps, puffer fish, conger eel, red fish and parrot fish, etc.
