Pooncarie is a pretty township on the Darling River, midway between Wentworth and Menindee. A base from which to go fishing or explore the Mungo National Park which contains the oldest Aboriginal burial site. Visit the Walls Of China a spectacular crescent shaped dune. Any spot beside the river is a pleasant place to stop for a picnic. Pooncarie to Mungo National Park is 88 kilometres of which 29 kilometres is unsealed. This unsealed section can be prone to bulldust and corrugations and closes after rain. Not recommended for caravans.
