Daming Lake Park is ranked among the three key points of interest in the city of Jinan, Shandong Province. With a constant water source that derives from the many springs that feed into the lake such as Pear Spring, Zhuoying Spring, Wangfu Chi Spring, to name just a few, Daming Lake is thus aptly called “the conflux of numerous springs”. A natural lake in the heart of a bustling city, Daming Lake has an average depth of two meters, while the deepest parts measure up to four meters. One of the lake’s most distinctive features, as indicated, is its constant water level; come flood or come drought, Daming Lake retains the same water level year-round. Another pleasing natural and ecological oddity of Daming Lake is the fact that it houses neither snake nor frog.
There are numerous scenic spots and areas of historical interest in and about the lake such as Lixia Pavilion, Tiegong Ancestral Temple, Nanfeng Ancestral Temple, Beiji (“North Pole”) Temple and Huibo Storeyed House, of which Lixia Pavilion and Tiegong Ancestral Temple in particular enjoy municipal protection as cultural and historical sites. Besides Daming Lake itself, Lixia Pavilion and Jiaxuan Ancestral Temple are especially noteworthy attractions within Daming Lake Park.
Lixia Pavilion
Lixia Pavilion is located on Daming Lake’s largest island. Covering an area of 4,160 sqm, the island is dotted with green willows. Taking their cue from the words of praise for Lixia Pavilion expressed by Du Fu, the great poet of the Tang Dynasty who once met with the mayor of Jinan at Lixia Pavilion, people thereafter tended to refer to the entire island and all of the architecture upon it, including the pavilion itself, as Lixia Pavilion. Lixia (alternatively, Li Xia) Pavilion gets its name from Li Mountain.
South of Lixia Pavilion is a gate with a corridor stretching from west to east on both sides. At the eastern end of the corridor is “Linhu Attic”. The “Account of the Rehabilitation of Lixia Pavilion” – composed by Chen Jingliang and recorded by He Shaoji in the 9th year of Emperor Xianfeng’s reign (CE 1850-1861) during the Qing (CE 1644-1911) Dynasty – is engraved on the northern side of the corridor. At the western end of the corridor is a three-roomed hall with up-turned eaves called Ouxiang Pinming Hall. Du Fu’s lines, inscribed by He Shaoji, were made into couplets and hung on the columns of Ouxiang Pinming Hall. Du Fu’s lines read: “To the right of the sea stands the ancient pavilion; Right here in Jinan are many important personages”.
A plaque bearing the inscription, “The Ancient Pavilion to the Right of the Sea”, was hung immediately above Du Fu’s famous couplet. A stele stands on the east side of the gate bearing the following three characters, personally penned by Emperor Qianlong of China’s last dynasty, the Qing Dynasty: “The Lixia Pavilion”.
Jiaxuan Ancestral Temple
Jiaxuan Ancestral Temple derives its name from the nickname given to the famous writer of the Southern Song (CE 1127-1279) Dynasty, Xin Qiji, who was also a military hero. Jiaxuan fought on multiple occasions against the Jin invasion (aka Jurchens, but later termed “Manchus”) into northern China, which had theretofore been under the rule of the Han Chinese.
Facing south, Jiaxuan Shrine is composed of three compounds which are built along the same center axis running south to north. With a stone lion guarding either side of the shrine’s entrance, a plaque hangs over the gate bearing the following words written by Marshal Chen Yi: “Xin Qiji Ancestral Temple”. Behind a black outer screen wall, a protective inner screen wall made of grotesquely shaped stones from Lake Tai stands inside the gate. Three side rooms with red pillars are ranged on both sides of the gate, which constitute the first compound of the temple. The specially constructed corridors on both sides of the first compound lead to the main hall of the second compound.
The couplets on the columns of the main hall of the first compound read: “With bold and unrestrained style, the poet’s position within the literati is as great as that of Su Dongpo; With the presentation of his [ci poem*] to the emperor, the poet shows his deep concern about the state of affairs of the country.” A statue of Xin Qiji stands in the middle of the main hall, with various calligraphies and paintings by celebrities and other masters adorning its walls. Books of about Xin Qiji are displayed in the hall’s library.
Many recurring recreational activities are held in Daming Lake Park such as an annual temple fair that is part of Jinan City’s spring festival, a flower show in the early spring, a lotus show, a miniascape exhibition featuring miniaturized plants, or Penzai (more commonly known to Westerners by its Japanese translation, “Bonsai”), and an exhibition featuring oddly-shaped stones as well as other folk traditions and cultural activities.
Daming Lake boasts a variety of architectural specialties: an archway, an attic, three gardens, three (multi-) storeyed houses, four shrines, six islands, seven bridges and ten pavilions. All of the buildings are arranged pleasingly and in harmony with the surroundings. The superb craftsmanship of the various architectural styles is complemented by the charm of the Chinese gardening art.
¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

* Ci poetry is a special lyrical form for the period in question, generally used to express feelings of desire and often in an adopted-for-the-occasion persona, such as was the case here, where the author makes a plea – not unlike an open letter to a politician in today’s media world – expressing his concern for the plight of the nation.

The city consists of 8 sightseeing sites, with a total investment of 500,000,000yuan, a controlling area of 7200mu, and a constructive area of 1100mu. The main building modeled after styles of Qing&Han buildings. The whole construction represents itself in antique and Chinese featured terraces, pavilions, spring wells. The beauty of the buildings consists in the zigzag paths with verdant bamboos alongside, in ancient cypresses and weeping willows which are joggling charmingly.
Wushengfu sits in the north, facing to the south. Occupying an area of 260mu, it stretches a length of 999m from south to north, and 88m from east to west, comprising 15 Sihe courtyards (traditional single-story houses with rooms around the four sides of a courtyard), with a southern and a northern square. The frame line of the buildings was vivid for incorporation of the architectures of Qin&Han style featured with high columns and overlapped eaves and traditional Sihe courtyards in northern China, highlighting the abstruse concept of Sunzi’s strategics comprehensively. Upon that, visitors can learn the profound traditional strategic culture during the process of sightseeing. The first hall of the 15 halls, Xudian gives a brief introduction to Sunzi. The 15th hall, Zeshidian illustrates the influence of ‘Art of War’ of written by Sunzi to the offspring. The 13 halls among the 1st and 15th demonstrate the ‘Art of War’, according to the order introduced in the book, and were named respectively by the stratagems they represent. Thirty six stratagems are displayed in western and eastern side rooms. Tourists can participate in the thirty six stratagems through games. From Cross the Sea under Camouflage (stratagem 1) to Decamping Being the Best (stratagem 36), all the stratagems appeal to people with great heartquake. The frame and structure of every halls and rooms are of distinctive and indicative appearance due to the sound, light, direction and other modern technologies to fully display the soul of every stratagem.
The north-east of Shuipo Liangshan is 150 kilometers from Shandong. In Han Dynasty Zhongyuan 6th year (144 B.C.), Duke Liangxiao, the second son of Emperor Hanwen, hunted in Liangshan and was buried there after his death, thus it got the name Liangshan. It is made up of 4 mountains and 7 branch ranges, with Hutou Mountain of 197 meters high as its highest peak, and cliffs in its four sides, very arduous. In Tang and Song dynasties, at the time of burst of the Yellow River, the big pool in Zhoucheng, with 800 meters wide, was called “Liangshan Lake”. It was said that in North Song Dynasty, the peasants insurgence led by Song Jiang had ever camped here to resist the official army. Besides, “Shuipo Liangshan”was also made well-known because of the coming out of the book “All Men Are Brothers”.
We uses YouTube API Services. https://www.worldtraveldb.com/youtubes-terms-of-service/

Thousand Buddha Mountain stands in the south of the city proper and was called Mount Lishan in the old times. According to legend, Yu Shun (one of the sagacious kings in the late primitive society of China) once tilled at its foot, so it is called Shun Tilling Mountain too. From 581 to 600 A.D., Buddhism was in trend and thousands of stone Buddhist sculptures were engraved on the mountain. From then on, it took the name of Qianfo Mountain (Thousand Buddha Mountain). Main peak of the mountain is 280m above sea level, many big stones, temples, pavilions, terraces are dotted on the mountain. The main scenic spots include pagoda-tree of the Tang Dynasty, Xingguo Temple, Nine Spots Terrace, Wenchang Temple, Shun Temple and Stone Buddhist Head.
We uses YouTube API Services. https://www.worldtraveldb.com/youtubes-terms-of-service/

Brief introduction to the scenic spot

Wulian Mountain Scenic Spot is a province-level forest park and natural protection area, and also a national AAAA scenic area. Wulian Mountain has verdant trees, beautiful and steep mountains with birds hovering around the valley and mountain springs winding around the brooks and waterfalls. Various fine scenes characterize the scenic spot with wonderfulness, elegance, danger, strangeness, quietness, spaciousness, and mysteriousness, seven characteristics. There are 49 peaks, 20 caverns, 18 waterfalls, 16 deep pools, 5 ponds, 4 gorges and so on. None of them does not disclose the wonder of nature and the ingenuity of the God. Many men of letters have been lingering over Wulian Mountain Scenic Spot since Tang and Song dynasties (618AD-1297AD), leaving masterpieces for generations, so it also has an elegant name called “a place abundant in poetry and proses”. According to textual research, the number of people who left poems or articles in the scenic spot amounts to hundreds.
We uses YouTube API Services. https://www.worldtraveldb.com/youtubes-terms-of-service/

With its highest peak rising 1133 meters above sea level, Mt. Laoshan, near the city of Qingdao, Shandong Province, is China’s highest coastal mountain. Situated midway along the land mass that comprises Shandong Peninsula’s Yellow Sea coastline, Mt. Laoshan is one of China’s major scenic resorts, and has long held the much-envied reputation of being China’s foremost coastal mountain tourist resort. The mountain covers 446 square kilometers, and boasts roughly 2 special places of interest to the tourist per square kilometer (there are 218 special places of interest in all on Mt. Laoshan).

Mt. Laoshan has a coastline of 87.3 kilometers, with 13 bays and 18 islets defining its coastal base. The sublime beauty of the old, time-hewn mountain with its many stone outcroppings, its tall pine trees and its plethora of flowers and blossoms in a pleasing variety of colors, is contrasted by the savage beauty of the sea, with its huge waves that crash against massive boulders, eroding them into strange, yet strangely beautiful, shapes. It is a natural environment for contemplation, extending the hope of an encounter with the supernatural, something that not only Taoist monks came here for, but also emperors: the first Qin (BCE 221-207) Dynasty emperor, Shi Huang (BCE 259-210), came to Mt. Laoshan hoping to meet immortals, as did Emperor Wu (CE 157-87) of the Western Han (BCE 206 – CE 9) Dynasty some three hundred years later.

Mt. Laoshan is the birthplace of Taoism, and has continued to play a central role in Taoism through the centuries, though many of Mt. Laoshan’s original temples and other holy places have not survived. At the peak of Taoism, there were 9 palaces, 8 temples, and 72 nunneries on the mountain that housed nearly 1000 Taoist priests and nuns. Taiqing Palace is the largest and oldest amongst the surviving Taoist holy places on Mt. Laoshan. Built in the early years of the Northern Song (CE 960-1127) Dynasty, Taiqing Palace has a history of nearly a thousand years, and features a simple architectural style. The palace is surrounded by countless scenic sites, being the center of the entire tourist area surrounding Mt. Laoshan.
