Located in the southwest of Hubei province, Qingjiang River originates from Lichuan which is the conjuncture of Chongqing and Hubei, and passes through Enshi, Jianshi, Changyang and other places. It is called Qingjiang which means a clean river because“it is so clean that people can view the sight below 10 zhang (a Zhang equals 10 feet )”.
The whole journey of the floating is 38.5 kilometers in length and its two extreme points in width is 15 meters and 200 meters. The best time to float is between April and October when the stream is more strong and quick at the same time more dangerous. To drift down the river on a rubber boat, visitors will pass 48 dangerous shoals with the biggest drop height of 4 meters and 5 canyons when enjoy the sequestered sights along two sides on the slow stream and the thrilling experience of passing in the splashing wave and running against the big stones on the hurry water. The whole journey will last for 6 hours and visitors can go back to Enshi at the terminal.
We uses YouTube API Services. https://www.worldtraveldb.com/youtubes-terms-of-service/

Below Immortals-Gathering-Peak in the Twelve Peaks of Mt. Wu in Wu Gorge, there are several sheer cliffs on the two sides of the Yangtze River and they are smooth as if having been hewn and polished. There is a big sunken part of these cliffs that looks like a huge Niche. It is said that once Zhuge Liang, also known as Zhuge Kongming, who was the prime minister of Shu kingdom in the Three Kingdom Period in the 3rd century AD, wrote an inscription on it, describing the scenery in Wu Gorge and Wu Mountains. As a result, it was later named Kongming Tablet.
It was said that when Zhuge Liang passed Wu Gorge leading his army into Sichuan, he had his important strategic argument “Answers Given at Longzhong” carved on the cliff. In it he laid down the strategy of uniting the kingdom of Wu against the kingdom of Wei. But later, Liu Bei , who was the king of Shu kingdom, mistakenly launched an attack against the kingdom of Wu in revenge for Guan Yu and Zhang Fei , who were his sworn brothers, and was utterly defeated. When the Wu general Lu Xun came to Immortals–Gathering–Peak in pursuit of Liu Bei, he was greatly moved after reading the inscription carved on the cliff. Then he ordered his forces to withdraw immediately. After that, Kongming’s Tablet became widely famous .
In fact, Zhuge Kongming never made any inscription on the Niche. There used to be inscriptions from different dynasties on it. But after exposured for long years to the natural elements, they have been so eroded that hardly any of them are still decipherable. Only fifteen characters are still intelligible nowadays. They mean “among the serried mountains and rocks of Wu Gorge, there are many famous peaks of fine scenery. The Twelve Peaks of Wushan. … ” The first six characters are most eye-catching. From the line of smaller characters on the edge which says “the . . . year of Jiajing”, we can tell that most of the inscriptions were carved on it during the Ming Dynasty. It is widely believed that the ancient people certainly need courage and patience to chisel the inscriptions on the sheer cliffs above the roaring river waters. Their intelligence, spirits and braveness are greatly admired by people nowadays. When the Three Gorge Project is finished in the fututure, this area will be covered up by water and therefore the Kongming Tablet will be moved to another place.
Qu Yuan Ancestral Hall, also called Qingliegong Ancestral Hall, was built in Tang Yuanhe 15th year and repeatedly repaired because of its destruction in Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Later it was changed to “”Qingliegong Ancestral Hall””. In 1978 when Gezhou Dam Hydro-junction was built, it was moved to the present place and was rebuilt according to its original condition.
It includes entrance, main hall as well as left and right side hall, etc. The entrance has the work place with a style of four columns and three buildings, with four characters “”Qing Lie Gong Ci”” written in the middle and “”Gu Zhong”” and “”Liu Fang”” on two sides. The main hall is constructed with steel disc concrete structure and has the style of Ming and Qing Dynasties, with green tiles and upturned eaves, which stands tall and erect on the Chongtai, very grand and magnificent. The Qu Yuan Grave behind the main hall is the tomb built by the people. The extant watchtower of the gate and stone memorial archway are all the originals of Daoguang years in Qing Dynasty (1616-1911).
It is next to the mountain and the river, with elegant scenery. Looking out into the distance to the south, all the mountains in the south bank come clearly into view. Every Dragon Boat Festival, the boat competition is held here. At that time, the colored boats are passing through like shuttles, and visitors on the bank are like looms, extraordinary lively. Such a spectacular event!
Background of Quyuan
Qu Yuan, who named Ping and styled himself Yuan, was Chu person of Warring States. He was the earliest famous poet in our country, who had ever assisted king Huai, and been appointed as Zuotu and Sanjian Dafu, latter got slandered to resign. Due to the political corruption of Chu country, Qing army intruded it and broke through Zou capital city. At that time, he could neither save Chu country from being in peril, nor realize his political ideal, so he threw himself to Guluo River to die. It was said that after Qu Yuan’s death, there was a god fish carrying his corpse to his native place Zigui and he was buried in a place 5 kilometers from the east city, which was called “”Qu Lun””.
The Old Shangjin City is also called Liuzhou City, which is 1,236 meters in circumference and has a floor area of 80,000 square meters. The city wall is about 7 meters high in the shape of trapezoid, built up with black bricks. The city has five city walls, each with a height of more than 3 meters. There are passages to the gate tower on the right of the gate. Outside the city are city moats, with a width of 35 meters and a depth of 6 meters. In the west corner of the city is a main street south-north oriented, linking the gate in the south and that in the north, with 287 meters long and 3 meters wide. A 60-meter long street lies between the west gate and the main street, paved with black stones right in the middle and with pebbles on the two sides. Right below the eaves are sewers. And the house buildings are mostly made up of bricks and woods, with beams carved and rafters painted —a richly ornamented building. According to the literature materials and archeological analysis, the city was built during the second and the third year of emperor Jiajing in Ming dynasty (1523-1524) and renovated in the seventh year of emperor Jiaqing in Qing dynasty (1802). Up to now, the structure of the city is still complete and most of the buildings in the city look what they were.
The Old Shangjin City, with quite a long history, is located in the south of Jizhen town. In the past 1,700 years, Shangjin has once been a county and a prefecture. Since the Southern Song Dynasty (208 A.D.), the area around Shangguan was in evil wars and thus became an important military place of the boundary of Hubei and Shann’xi province. Till the year 1368 in Ming dynasty, Shangjin was merged into Yunxi. In the history, or rather, the third year of Weijingyuan, the former Wei’s military force controlled the upper reach of Han River. Right there, Cao Cao set Shangjin City as an important strategic place and held the passage to Central Plains. In Yuan dynasty, the emperor Hu Bilie attacked Wuchang and made the city the backline of war for storing up grains. The emperor Song Kuangying in Song dynasty, Lv Dongbin, Huang Cao, Li Zicheng, Zhang Xianzhong and Wang Cong’er all came here, which added rich and gaudy colors to the Chu Culture.
Introduction of attraction:
Xisai Hill Attraction has a planned area of 0.495km2.It integrates its beautiful visible sights such as its precipitous and perilous scenery and its famous relics and profound culture influence such as its history of the changes and swifts of the ancient Huangshi City (also named Daoshifu) and the ancient poems and Ci ( a kind of ancient Chinese literature style).
Xisai Hill is also called Daoshifu Rock or Rock Hill with a height of 176.5 meters above sea level. In the ancient time, it is famous for its precipitous terrain and its important geographic position between Wu Kingdom and Chu Kingdom; while nowadays it is attractive for integrating ancient battlefield and scenic spot.
From the later years of Eastern Han Dynasty to the founding of the People’s Republic, more than 100 battles took place here; nearly 100 poems were composed by men of letters to express their ambition and feelings while they were enjoying the charming morning and dusk of Xisai Hill.; and lots of scripts and figures of Buddha were left on the steep cliffs. Since May, 1985, the renovation of sightseeing lane, corridor, Shangguan pavilion, Taohua Pavilion, iron-chain railing alongside the Yangtze River and Ancient Diaoyu Terrace, has been organized by the Municipal Garden Department. Other scenic spots are under continuous development.
Major Scenic spots:
Ancient Taohua Grotto
Scripts and figures of Buddha on the cliffs
Iron Stake of Xisai Hill
On the right side of the Taohua Cave, an iron stake stands on the rock, which is 8.2 cm in height, 3cm in breadth, and 1cm in depth, with a dent in the middle and a carve on its side. Legend has it that the iron stake is the trace left by Sun Hao, the emperor of Wu Kingdom, when he crossed Yangtze Rive with iron chain.
Black Dragon Pond Scenic Spot is the source of the Guangshui River which origins from the Nantian at the south foot of Guangtou(bold) Mountain in the common boundary of Hubei and Henan Province, and goes through Laowuji and Yezhutang to Nianziwan reservoir. It extends more than ten miles, so it was also called Longshigeng. There are deep gully and narrow ravine, clusters of waterfalls which are all together 18 like Tiankouwan, Dragon Palace, Dragon Pond, Dragon Gate, Two Dragons Chasing with a Pearl, and Songliwan etc. from the top to the bottom and they together were called Donggou Waterfalls.
The Black Dragon Pond waterfall is surrounded by lofty cliffs only left a space with the diameter of 7 meters. When you look down, it seems no end; when look up, the sky is as small as a bowl, therefore it was called ‘Tiankouwan Waterfall’. The distance between the two waterfalls is 31 meters and the flying falls just like water poles. The beautiful rainbow appears in the water drops and when the waterfall drops on the rocks, it sounds like thunders. The valley is so deep and dark that the cold air makes you feel freezing.
There is high cableway connecting the Blake Dragon Pond Scenic Spot and Jigong Mountain which is one of the ten summer resorts and you can ride the high cableway to Jigong Mountain and enjoy the fun of appreciating a scene in two provinces and two scenic spots lying in one mountain.
We uses YouTube API Services. https://www.worldtraveldb.com/youtubes-terms-of-service/

Baoping, near the city of Yichang, Hubei Province, is a charming little village that has been preserved as much as possible in its original state in order to honor the memory of a woman who was born here and who became famous for her beauty: Wang Zhaojun. How Wang Zhaojun, who was a beautiful young lady-in-waiting in the imperial court (BCE 75–33) of Emperor Yuan of the Western Han (BCE 206 – CE 9) Dynasty, came to be married off to a Hun chieftain as a pawn in an imperial game of chess designed to divide and conquer the Hun enemies of the Han Chinese emperor, is a tale of mistaken identity, but a tale with a twist in which petty corruption is rather roundly punished.*

A small, gently-flowing tributary to the Yangtze River, named Fragrant Brook after a legend (see below) concerning Wang Zhaojun, runs through Baoping Village. The western bank of Fragrant Brook is bordered by a green hill, with a natural flat depression in the hillside on which a village emerged, and thus the village came to be known as “valuable level land”, or Baoping in Chinese. A section of the village gate of Baoping is in the form of a platform made of earth, on which a door is engraved with the Chinese characters “Shu Zhuang Tai” (“dressing table”). It is said that this is the place where Wang Zhaojun used to sit for her morning toilet. The present-day platform has an added canopy, with stone tables and stools beneath it where visitors may pause for a rest – and perhaps to primp a bit at such an auspicious locale.

Nearby the village gate is the former dwelling of Wang Zhaojun, which had fallen into disrepair but which has since been restored to its original glory. The entrance-way to the house is marked by a palatial gate tower. The house itself is tall, full of rooms with high ceilings, and with winding corridors. A large garden park surrounds the house, with a terraced flower garden displaying hundreds of flowers, which, in season, blossom luxuriantly. Prominently placed in the garden park is a three-meter-high figure of Wang Zhaojun made of white marble, a later gift to the natal village of Wang Zhaojun by the city of Huhot, capital of present-day Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, but territory that was ruled by Huns, Altaic forbears of the Mongolians, during the life and times of Wang Zhaojun.

Less than a hundred meters from the natal village of Wang Zhaojun is Nanmu Well, named after the nanmu tree that grows in it. The well has never dried up in all its long history, and its meter-deep waters are still clear enough that one can see to the bottom. Nanmu Well was the water source for the former residence of Wang Zhaojun, and remains an active, functional well, used by the villagers of Baoping to this day.

LEGENDS

Wang Zhaojun is considered as one of the four most beautiful women of ancient China. There are many charming legends, some happy, some sad, regarding the beautiful and gentle Wang Zhaojun. Below are two of the more famous “Fragrant Brook” legends related to Wang Zhaojun.

How “Fragrant Brook” Became Fragrant

One day when Wang Zhaojun was bathing in the small stream near her home, she carelessly dropped a pearl that was immediately washed away. From that moment the stream was transformed into a calm, transparent brook, full of fragrance. Thus the stream was thereafter known as Fragrant Brook.

Whence the Minnows of “Fragrant Brook”

One day Wang Zhaojun was given extraordinary permission by her husband to visit her parents in her natal village of Baoping. When the visit ended, Wang Zhaojun duly bad farewell to her parents and proceeded to the boat anchored up in Fragrant Brook that would carry her back to the home of her husband, a Hun chieftain who lived far to the north. It was the month of March, when the peach blossoms are in full bloom and all of nature is joyous and steeped in beauty, yet Wang Zhaojun’s heart was filled with sadness, for she knew that this would be her last ever visit to her parents and to her natal village, and therefore Wang Zhaojun broke into tears while stepping into the boat. Her tears fell into Fragrant Brook, where they mingled with the petals of the falling blossoms, which were immediately transformed into minnows.

¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤

* What we know of the real person who called herself Wang Zhaojun (she was born Wang Qiang, but styled herself Wang Zhaojun) can be gleaned from official records, where the girl was referred to simply as “Mingfei” (Concubine Ming) in the later annals of the Jin (CE 265-420) Dynasty. According to these later annals, which have preserved the history of the imperial court of both Emperor Xuan and his son, Emperor Yuan, Wang Qiang was a brave, devoted child who volunteered to enter into the harem of Emperor Yuan in exchange for the release of her father, a scholar and an official who was to be punished for something or another, perhaps a failure that was not owing to his own neglect, but simply because it was common practice in those times to name and punish a scapegoat.

Wang Zhaojun, as she called herself, remained an unknown quantity at the court of Emperor Yuan, simply because in those times, the emperor chose his consort for the night not in person, but by sorting through the portraits of the concubines that were painted by the court painter. It was the custom in the court of Emperor Yuan (and indeed, the custom surely existed before – though possibly not after, as the epilogue will suggest – the reign of Emperor Yuan) that the concubines – euphemistically termed “ladies-in-waiting” (in truth they were only waiting to be beckoned to the bed of the emperor) – paid the court painter a fee in order to have a flattering likeness, or perhaps unlikeness, made of them. Wang Zhaojun was a natural beauty – in fact, she was outrageously beautiful, and in fact, unusually intelligent – and therefore she did not feel compelled to pay a bribe to have her likeness improved by the court painter. Unbeknownst to Wang Zhaojun, the court painter took his revenge by rendering Wang Zhaojun as the ugliest concubine in the entire harem, and therefore Wang Zhaojun was never beckoned to the bed of the emperor, who thus remained unaware that among the concubines in his harem was such a rare beauty.

During those times, China, under the Han Chinese, had been besieged by a nomadic Altaic people to the north, the Huns. Battling the Huns had also been the fate of Emperor Yuan’s father, Emperor Xuan. Already during the reign of Emperor Xuan, the Huns had split into five different kingdoms, each ruled by a chieftain, or Shan-Yu, and each vying for power over the others, and each continuing to battle their Han Chinese neighbors to the south whenever the opportunity presented itself. One of the Shan-Yus, a certain Khukhenye, had suffered defeat at the hand of his brother, Zhizhi-Guduhu, also a Shan-Yu, so in order to strengthen his position vis-à-vis his brother, not to speak of vis-à-vis the other Shan-Yus, Khukhenye sent a message to Emperor Xuan informing the latter of his plight and his plans, and entreating the Chinese emperor to grant him an audience.

The audience went remarkably well; Emperor Xuan even went to the edge of the capital city in order to meet his visitor half-way, as it were. Khukhenye stayed with his host for an entire month, as relations between the two men warmed. When Khukhenye decided to return to the north, Emperor Yuan sent a large army to escort him back home, and the emperor sent along generous quantities of food to be given to Khukhenye’s vassals, who were impoverished due to the ravages of war. Thereafter Khukhenye remained a loyal friend of Emperor Xuan.

When the emperor died and his son, Emperor Yuan, ascended to the throne, Khukhenye continued his friendly ties with the new Chinese emperor. Khukhenye’s position was strengthened in the meantime because the forces of Emperor Xuan had eliminated Khukhenye’s ruthless brother, Zhizhi-Guduhu, because the latter had had one of Emperor Xuan’s emissaries killed. With Khukhenye’s brother and nemesis out of the way, Khukhenye’s position continually improved, so he decided one day to make a second visit to the Han Chinese to the south in order to meet the son of the emperor who had befriended him, the new emperor, Emperor Yuan. Hoping to strengthen his ties to the new Chinese emperor, Khukhenye suggested that he be allowed to marry one of Emperor Yuan’s daughter, but the emperor, though willing to permit his guest to marry a member of the imperial court, stopped short of permitting his guest to marry one of his daughters.

Instead Emperor Yuan instructed the caretaker of his harem to find a volunteer among the “ladies-in-waiting”, or concubines, who would be willing to marry Khukhenye. None of the girls were particularly interested in volunteering, however, as they enjoyed their life at the imperial court, except for “Concubine Ming”, who languished in boredom, having no contact with the emperor and therefore being consigned to spend the rest of her life in idle pursuits, a painful fate for a person as intelligent as Wang Zhaojun. Thus Wang Zhaojun became the bride of the Hun chieftain, Khukhenye.

The epilogue to the story is that when Emperor Yuan, who, out of politeness, was obliged to attend the marriage of Khukhenye to the rather ugly concubine (the story goes that the emperor had been presented with the portrait of the bride-to-be, and nodded his approval), laid eyes on the stunningly beautiful Wang Zhaojun, he demanded to know how such a rare beauty had escaped his attention. It was at this point that the corruption racket of the court painter, a certain Mao Yanshou, was revealed. The story also goes that the emperor was so enraged at learning of a petty corruption racket that had denied him the pleasures of such a rare beauty as Wang Zhaojun that he immediately had Mao Yanshou put to death.

Sanyou Cave, at the northern exit of the Xiling Gorge and 10 kilometers away from Yichang, offers possible the best cave scenery in the Three Gorges area.
The cave got its name after the visit from the three most famous Tang Dynasty poets of Baijuyi, Baixingjian and Yuanzhen. Legends goes that the three poets paid a visit to this cave and inspired by its unique scenery, they each wrote a poem of it on the cave cliff.
Sanyou cave is in the sheer cliff and is cool in summer and warm in winter. The inside of the cave is broad in the shape of an irregular rectangle. The cave is 30 meters in depth, 23 meters in width and 9 meters in height and was formed by centuries’ erosion from the water against the rocks. The rocks in the cave take a great variety of shapes. On the flat rock faces are inscriptions left by numberless ancient poets, the themes of which are much pretty the same, praising the fantastic cave scenery. There are over 100 steles of inscriptions found in and outside the cave and 60 of them are well preserved. The forms of these inscriptions range from regular script, clerical script, seal character, running script, cursive hand, covering all the forms of Chinese characters. It is no wonder that Sanyou Cave is renowned as living museum of Chinese calligraphy.
In front of the Sanyou Cave flowers the Xialao Stream, whose water is as clear and bright as gemstones.
Near the cave entrance, a small path leads to the Zhixin Pavilion, where the travelers can gain a majesty scenery of the mighty Yangtze River surge among high mountains.
Sanyou Cave served as a revolutionary site during the Word War?and was visited by premier Zhouenlai on his way to check terrain for the Three Gorge Dam to be built.
