Biyun Karst Cave is located in the Biyun Park. It is also called “Water Cave” which was commended a wonder of Pu’an according to the record in Ming Dynasty. And in the China’s Key Point of Interests Dictionary Biyun Karst Cave is the only one of the spots which has been collected in Liupanshui city. The cave consists of the “Heaven Cave” and “Ground Cave” with special structures. The roof of the cave is high here and then low there, water here and earth there. The inscription by Xuxiake, a geographer in Ming Dynasty, is well preserved.
We uses YouTube API Services. https://www.worldtraveldb.com/youtubes-terms-of-service/

Surrounded by green mountains, Langde Shang Village is situated beside a crystal stream. Several roofed wooden bridges, called “Wind and rain” bridges by the locals, stretches over the stream. Several stone grain mills and mill wheels have been built on both sides of the stream. Ducks can be seen here and there, flapping the wings happily in the water. On the waist of the slope facing the village is a 150-meter-long racecourse and a flat ground, whose area is about 8 mu (mu is a traditional unit of area, equaling to 0.0667 hectare or 1/6 acre). On March 5th of the lunar calendar every year, thousands of young Miao people from the region where the four counties, Leishan, Kaili, Majiang, and Danzhai, have a common boundary, come to the place. They climb the mountains, sing musical dialogues in antiphonal styles, and race horses.
The Langde Shang Village is located at the foot of a mountain. There are five “flower roads” leading to the village. A wood gatehouse, called the “village gate”, is built at the eastern, western and northern entrances of the village. Row upon row of wood houses (those propped up by wooden supports with ladders leading up) makes a picturesque scene. The roads and courtyards in the village are paved with cobbles or bluestones. There are a drum ground and a Lusheng (the reed-pipe wind instrument used by Miao, Yao and Dong nationalities in southwestern China) ground, built in the pattern of ancient bronze drum surface. Twelve short tracks, paved with blue-brown cobbles, stretch to twelve directions, symbolizing the twelve rays of lights. A cobble pattern of galloping horse is inlayed at the end of the drum ground and the Lusheng ground.
Visitors to Langde Shang Village have to drink the “block-the-way” wine (a local custom of welcoming the guests) when they arrive. Twelve tables are placed in the middle of the path from the roadside of the highroad to the gate of the villages. Several full-dressed young people will propose a toast to the guests with two bowls of wine, wishing them happy and healthy. At the last table to the village, people will use a big cow horn to hold the wine and propose toast to the guests. So the guests should drink a lot before they enter the village. However, those who are not good at drinking don’t have to worry. If they don’t want to drink, they can put their hands at the back, bend forward a little and touch the cup with their lip, and say ” dousemo” (Miao language, meaning “thank you”). Then they can pass the table. The villagers are very hospitable, but they will never make the guests drink if they can’t.
The welcoming ceremony continues when the villagers set off firecrackers, play Mangtong (a kind of local musical instrument), and sing song of toasting the guests. Then the villagers will dress up and lead the guests to the Lusheng ground. The young villagers will have the traditional dances, Lusheng dance, wooden stool dance, wood drum dance, bronze drum dance, and so on. Finally, all the villagers will go the ground and form several circles and dance. They will also invite the guests to join them. After the dancing ceremony, guests can go to the villagers’ home to observe the creaking spinning wheels and the weaving machine and enjoy the quiet village life.
Nanhua Miao Village, as part of Three Trees Town, is located roughly 15 kilometers from the city of Kaili, the capital of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. The village of Nanhua lies on the opposite side of the Bala River from the regional highway that connects Kaili to Nanhua, the Lu Rong Inter-Provincial Highway. The local road from Nanhua to the regional highway crosses the river via a wooden bridge. Most, if not all, of the edifices in this part of China, including the Miao cottages of Nanhua, are in fact of wood that is generally held together by means of wooden joinery, i.e., without recourse to either metal (nails, screws, bolts, etc.) or glue, but simply by means of interlocking joints such as mortoise and tenon (“”peg and hole””) joinery and other, more articulated joinery methods (think of a jigsaw puzzle).

The first thing that strikes a visitor to Nanhua Miao Village is that all of the cottages seem to be standing on stilts, at least as regards the major part of the cottage, for the second thing that strikes the visitor is that all of the cottages seem to be constructed on an incline. The third thing that is likely to strike the visitor to Nanhua Miao Village is that all of the cottages seem to be multi-storyed. There is indeed method in this seeming madness, and it demonstrates the adeptness of the Miao people in artfully adapting to the challenging conditions that they have faced since ancient times.

Since most of the land area that comprises a Miao habitat is hilly-to-mountainous, all of the level bits of land (and these are often themselves terraced mountainsides) have been reserved for agriculture (crops), leaving only inclines on which to construct housing; one side of the cottage is thus anchored to the hillside, while the other three sides are propped up with the help of stilts (certain of these stilts form an integral part of the framework of the cottage, continuing upwards for one or more storeys, not just short legs that are appended below the base of the lower storey). Moreover, the typical Miao cottage is a house, a chicken coop and a granary, all rolled into one, evidence of the practicality of the Miao people.

The first storey, or perhaps one should call it “”the basement”” (i.e., the earth-floored stilt area underneath the house proper, or the “”wedge”” between the first wooden floor, which is level, and the angled hillside below), serves as an abode for domestic animals and as storage space for animal feed (hay, etc.) as well as fertilizer. The second storey serves as the living quarters of the family as well as an ancestral temple, or shrine, while the third storey serves as a granary, as a place to hang clothes to dry, and as an indoor space for children to play in.

The practical division of the storeys of a Miao cottage is evident. For example, it would be impractical to store animal feed, which must me accessed on a daily basis, on higher storeys, while it would be equally impractical to store grain, which must be kept dry in order to avoid mildew and rot, on the first storey, near the damp earth. Beyond the mere practicality of the multi-storeyed Miao cottage is the beauty of the age-old methods employed in constructing a Miao cottage, which age-old methods constitute an art form that is handed down from generation to generation. The beauty of design and the beauty of workmanship of a Miao cottage is most evident from the cottage’s interior.

Life in Nanhua Miao Village is very close-knit and communal, where each member of Miao society is taught to see him-/ herself as a member of the community. Part of the cohesiveness of Miao society derives from its social customs, such as: the staging of the Gabaifu, a kind of opera in which the Miao tribal philosophy is enacted; the performance of the Yadio song of Miaozu, which is a constant reminder to the Miao of their cultural unqiueness; the Gushe assembly, in which villagers amass to the sound of a beating drum to hear their leader speak; and the wedding ceremony, where villagers don colorful costumes and where traditional Miao song-and-dance is performed. But the cohesiveness of Miao society derives as well from more mundane communal concerns: when an old cottage is to be replaced by a new one, the new cottage is erected as a community effort; everyone pitches in, with those who lack sufficient expertise helping those who do possess expertise, in whatever capacity they can.

In addition to these somewhat more exclusive Miao customs there are a number of public Miao festivals in which visitors are more than welcome to participate. These include: the Sisters Festival, which is held on the second day of the second month of the lunar calendar; the Zongzi Festival, which is held on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar; the Eating New Things Festival, which is held on the seventh day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar; and the Miaozu Year, which is held on the tenth day of the tenth month of the lunar calendar.

The Miao are a handsome, charming people who live in pleasing harmony with their surroundings, adapting themselves to the necessities of life seemingly without becoming unduly burdened by that task. “”Life is also to be enjoyed”” might be the Miao motto.

The reserve, with the highest peak – the Xianwang peak at the center, consists of a few platforms that are nearly one thousand square meters in area. The whole forest has a land area of approximately 2, 000 acres.
Being a real kingdom of wild plants and animals, Xianheping is home to more than 800 types of subtropical evergreen broadleaf trees, some of which are of high economic value. Among the trees there also grow a great number of herbs for traditional Chinese medicine and mushrooms for food. Some specie in the reserve is on the fringe of extinction and thus under strict national protection. In the spring time the reserve turns out to be an ocean of flowers, colorful flowers are everywhere such as azalea. When the summer comes, the whole reserve is covered with lush woods, some gigantic tree seems to reach the sky and the sunshine has been blocked. In the golden autumn when many sweet fruits such as the kiwi fruit ripen, the reserve becomes the Garden of Eden. A few months later the snowy winter falls, the green reserve turns white overnight. In each season of a year, the wonderful reserve will not let her visitors down. Major attractions here are the Heavenly Street, Crane Pools, Stone Forest, Stone Gate and Kiwi Fruit Woods on the Hillside
Heavenly Street
On the top of the Xiangwang peak there are a number of regular red sandstones which looks like a street on the rock. So this attraction gets its name of Heavenly Street. Standing on the Xiangwang peak of 1,756.7 meters above sea level, one can take a bird’s eye view of the whole zone and other hills and peaks look much smaller. Each year many cranes come and inhabit here for a few months, therefore the reserve is called Xianheping which mean the place where cranes settle down.
Crane Pools
The dozens of pools scatters on the swamp land of the Xiling Mountain. The pool abounds with various water grasses and insects which form a perfect habitat for cranes, the pools are thus called.
Stone Forest
The five acre stone forest is situated close to the mountainous path to the Xiling Mountain. The height of the irregular stones ranges form eight to four meters. Entering into the forest, one seems to be trapped in a labyrinth.
Stone Gate
It is located in a valley of the Xiling Mountain and about 20 meters in width. On both sides of the stone gate there stand many bluffs and cliffs and the gate is the only passage to Xiling.
Kiwi Fruit Woods on the Hillside
In the reserve there is a famous kiwi fruit forest which consists of over a hundred kiwi trees and yield very sweet fruits in fall. Among the kiwi trees there grow some short but bushy tea trees.
Xijiang Miao Village is located southeast of Kaili City. There are about 1,000 households in the village, so it is also called Qianhu Miao Village (Qianhu means a thousand households). The villagers build their houses at the foot of a mountain. The houses are mostly wood houses (those propped up by wooden supports with ladders leading up), or built with dark red maple wood blocks, which appear golden in the evening glow. The village enjoys a beautiful natural environment with green mountains and crystal water. It is also the homeland of Miao song and dance, and abundant local festivals.
We uses YouTube API Services. https://www.worldtraveldb.com/youtubes-terms-of-service/
