Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Museum lies along the bank of the Jialing River, which comprises Red Cliff Village 13, Zengjia Cliff 50, Guiyuan Garden, and the former site of “Xinhua Daily”. The place used to be the southern bases for CPC Central Committee during the anti-Japanese war. Because of their outstanding performance in the war, people established the museum to commemorate them.

Red Cliff Village 13 was mainly a three-floor building built by the official staffs of the South Bureau and the Eighth Route Army at that time. It functioned as accommodation and office for Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and other leaders. The most important fact was that the Red Cliff Village used to be a world famous political center of CPC Central Committee during the war. So that museum displays many revolutionary relics used by official leaders.

Then there is the Guiyuan Garden, which was the office building for Mao Zedong. As for Zengjia Cliff, it was the place for Zhou Enlai to meet foreign people and both domestic and foreign journalists.

Touring the Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Museum, you can obtain a more thorough understanding of Chinese history. At the same time, you can take a close look at the revolutionary relics related to Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai.

Located at the world-famous Three Gorge area , Dachang ancient town has a long history of over 1700 years and it used to be the best preserved ancient town in this area. With the building of the Three Gorge Project, this old town would be completely under water and therefore the local government began to make a copy of this town at another place which is about 5 kilometers from the original site in the year 2004. They spent a lot of money moving the movable things and making copies of the immovable . The whole job was completed in the year 2007 and the new Dachang Ancient Town was opened to public in Oct, 2007. It was almost the same lay out as the original and the north-south street was about 200 meters long , while the east-west street was over 150 meters long.
As the ancient town is situated in the mountainous area and the topography here has always been very complicated, as early as the Spring–autumn period in the 6th century BC, it had already become a place of much strategical and military importance. Before the beginning of the Three Gorge Project, there were lots of groups of Ming and Qing dynasty style buildings, including some quadrangles in the ancient town. And there were three city gates that had been very well protected, in front of which old stone lions could be seen. In the villages there were also some old trees which were believed to be over several hundred years old.
After the whole ancient town was moved and copied at the new place, though there were not as many tourists here as before, it was believed that visitors could still learn much about the local people’s life and the history of this place.

Chongqing Huguang Huiguan (Huiguan means assembly hall) is located in Yuzhong District, which was established during Emperor Qianlong’s period of Qing Dynasty (1759). It covers a total area of 8,561 square meters. There are four Huiguan altogether: Guangdong Huiguan, Jiangnan Huiguan, Lianghu Huiguan and Jiangxi Huiguan.
Chongqing Huguang Huiguan has unique carving and relief embossment. It mainly focuses on showing the vivid pictures and patterns of the heroes and figures of Pilgrimage to the West, West Chamber, and The Legend of Deification. In Huguang Huiguan you can also appreciate many fancy pictures of all kinds of animals and exotic plants.

After entering the Huiguan, you will get a full view of complex and delicate ancient buildings, which represent the architectural style of old-time southern China. These are the biggest ancient buildings still existing in China. You will enjoy varied sorts of special wall styles of the Huiguan, which used to be a very common yellow-fire wall in Ming and Qing Dynasties. This kind of wall shaped the whole Huguang Huiguan in “L” style, which will bring a shocking visual impact to you.

Summary
The Dazu Rock Carving was firstly excavated at the beginning of Yonghui, Tang Dynasty. After the late Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, it was very popular the southern Song and northern Song Dynasties (A.D.960-1278). In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, more statues were carved. Finally, a large group of rock carving, which gathered the pith of China’s rock carving, was fomed. It’s on a par with Yungang Grotto, Longmen Grotto and Duhuang Grotto. It’s hailed as the magical the pearl of oriental art home and abroad. Dazu is the home of rock carving. There are more than 40 rock carving and over 50,000 statuary features. Among them, the most famous two rock carvings with the biggest scale are Baodingshan and Beishan. There are nearly 10,000 stone statuary features. They mainly gather in the Fowan part which is about one Li long and looks like a new moon. These rock carvings here were excavated in Jingfu, Song dynasty (A.D.892).They undergone the Five Dynasties, Nansong Dynasty and Beisong Dynasty. It has been built for 250 years. These statuary figures are vivid and lifelike. They are excavated elaborately. The most wonderful features are several figures of Guanyin, Wenshu and Puxian. The rock carving in Baoshishan is rare in the grotto art of our country.
Scenic Spots
(1) Baodingshan of Dazu Rock Carving
Centered on Dafowan(Great Buddha Crescent) , Baodingshan of Dazu Rock Carving has 13 scenic spots. Xiaofowan, Daota, Longtoushan, Shushishan, Huang po, are in the east; Gaoguanyin is in the south; Guangdashan, Fozhuyan are in the west; Yanwan, longtan, Duimianfo are in the north. The statuary figures in Dafowan have the most artistic value with the largest scale. They are kept in the best state. Dafowan is a horseshoe-shape mountain crescent. There are more than 10,000 statuary features in the small and large size in the 500-meter-long and 15-30 –meter- high cliff. At the same time, there are some accounts about the origin of Baodingshan and Buddha inscriptions. The statuary features in Dafowan are carved depending on the shape of mountains and cliffs. The features are tall and magnificent with wild subjects and in rigorous design. Buddhist image is full of novel and unique conception, with skilled carving and rich colors of common customs. The content is mainly about the sutra stories. The main features “Six Recurrents”, “Loving parents Buddhist Image”, “Hail Buddhist Image”, etc. are vivid and full of profound significance.
Tips: Baodingshan is worth seeing, but temple next to Baodingshan isn’t worth seeing. This temple is too small, there is little to watch, and the price is very high.
(2) Beishan of Dazu Rock Carving
Beishan of Dazu Rock carving was firstly excavated in the first year (A.D. 892) of Jingfu, the title of Emperor Zhaozhong’s Region in Tang dynasty. After the Five Dynasties and the Southern and Northern Song Dynasties, nearly 10,000 statuary features were created in Fowan, Yingpanpo, Guanyinpo, Northern Tower Temple, Fo’er cliff, etc. The statuary features in Fowan are the most concentrated. There are 290 small caves numbered in the cliff. In the 300-meter-long and 7-meter- high cliff, there are 6 stone tablets, 55 inscriptions on the statues, 8 stone pillars engraved Buddhist classics, one piece of “Wenshu Treating Patients.” picture in intaglio, 264 niches of stone statues. The Buddha figures in Fowan are engraved carefully and complicatedly, with pretty and easy posture and in special style. The statue of Puxian Buddha in Xinshenche Grotto is fine, which is hailed as “Oriental Venus”. Rotating Wheel Storing Buddhist Classics Grotto is called “the palace of stone statues”. Weijunjing Tablet, Caijing Tablet and Old Wenxiao Tablet exist in the world solely. Not only they are the treasures of handwriting, but also they offset the vacancy of historical materials. They have very high value. Stone statues in Fowan are divided into the south region and north region. In the south region are mostly the works of the late Tang dynasty and Five dynasties. In the north region are mostly the Southern and Northern Song dynasties. The features of the works of the late Tang dynasty are full and dignified. They are engraved in flowing line, with simple and honest temperaments and simple attire. The works of the Five dynasties are exquisite and colorful. The attires are from the simple to the complex. They get rid of the influence of foreign culture, and have the characteristics of the stone statue’s transition period. The works of the Southern and Northern Song dynasties have outstanding national characteristics.

Tips: Beishan of Dazu Rock carving is 2,000 meters away from the north part of Dazu County. The fare of a ticket is 40 Yuan.

The Pipa Mountain Park is the private garden owned by former president of Sichuan province during the period of the National Government. By then it was named as “Kingdom”. In 1955, the name was changed into “Pipa Mountain Park” and it was opened to the public. As for the origin of the name of mountain, some people think there were a lot of loquat trees on the mountain many years ago, so it got the name; some people think that’s because the shape of the mountain looks like a Pipa(Lute-like string instrument with fretted fingerboard),and the pronunciation of Pipa is similar with that of “loquat” in Chinese.

Dazu Rock Carvings are a great masterpiece of art, important contribution to the creation of new ides in the development of Chinese speleology, an example of lifelike creation of speleology, a new page in China’s history of Tantric buddhism, and vivid reflection of major developments and changes in the religious beliefs among Chinese. As a result on December 1st 1999 Dazu Rock Carvings was inscribed on the World Heritage list by the UNESCO. The general term of “Dazu Rock Carvings” refers to all the cliffside carvings in Dazu County, Chongqing municipality. Put under conservation and protection are 75 spots of cliffside carvings composed of more than 50000 statues and over 100000 Chinese characters of inscriptions and epigraphs. Dazu County, located in the Southeast of the basin-like Sichuan province, 271 kilometers away from Chengdu to her west and 163 kilometers away from Chongqing to her east, has the population of over 900000 and the area of about 1400 square kilometers. Founded in the first year of Qianyuan in Tang dynasty (758 A.D). Dazu County whose name suggests that of ” harvest and abundance (Dafeng, Dazu)” has thus far engoyed her history of more than 1240 years. Chongqing People’s Auditorium was started building in June 1951. It was finished building in April 1954. It’s a period of group of national buildings. It’s also the symbolized building, representing special characteristics of Chongqing. The whole building is composed of auditorium, east building, south building, and north building. It covers a total area of 66,000 square meters, with the auditorium covering 18,500 square meters. Chongqing People’s Auditorium is 65 meters high. The auditorium is 55 meters high. The internal diameter is 46.33 meters. The circle auditorium is surrounded by five- storey stand, which are protruded out. It can hold over 4,200 people. Chongqing People’s Auditorium adopts the traditional architectural form of axial symmetry. Colonnades match with double wings. Tower is at the end. It’s in perfect proportion. The People’s Auditorium looks like the Temple of Heaven in Beijing enlarged, with big green roof of glazed roof tiles, red colonnades, white balustrades. It is painted with all kinds of pictures. The Monument to the People’s Liberation is regarded as the center of commerce of the Yuzhong District in Chongqing. There are lots of stores, bookstores, theaters, bars, and hotels around it. The largest snacks street in Chongqing city is 300 meters away from here.
